The 2016 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) was
live at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday,
March 5 and it was an absolute blast – from the red carpet displays to
the awards proper and all of that.
It was for the first time a Sierra Leonean movie has been nominated for the prestigious movie and entertainment Award. Elephant in the Room’, a Sierra Leonean-Nigerian collaboration, was nominated for the category of Best Art Director.
However the director of the movie, Patrick ‘koinage’ Nnamani lost out to Frank Rajah in the awards which was held yesterday.
The movie industry in Sierra Leone is still at its embryonic stage,
largely held-back by lack of infrastructure.
But some local movie makers have been beating all the odds. Some do so by collaborating with Nigerian and Ghanaians, who are leading the sector on the continent.
The maker of Elephant in the room’, Zainab Sheriff, collaborated with Nigerian star Ramsey Noah. The movie was released late last year with a premier in Freetown.
